"Ballet-ex", artistic director Luisa Signorelli

CURRICULUM  BALLET-EX

The dance group directed by Luisa  Signorelli  has been active since 1995. Its original name was “Acquario Ballet-ex”  and was for many years  in collaboration with the cultural association “L'acquario”, which organises art exhibitions.   During this time the dance group grew in ever-increasing artistic prominence, and in September 2007 changed its artistic affiliation, becoming simply  “Ballet-ex”.

Over the years the company's work has  varied greatly,  aiming to transmit its message to  all kinds of  audiences.

From 1998 to 2001  the Company gave many performances in schools; in fact over 150 were included, both primary  and secondary.  Having obtained  assistance from Regione Lazio  (similar to a County Council)  it then became possible to create a Festival. This  was  then  presented in  Latina, Tivoli and Gaeta,  and a particular feature of this  Festival, which had mainly young people as audience,  was a painting competition especially for  them on the theme:  dance and the environment..

Ballet-ex had also enjoyed collaboration with Mediascena Europa, participating in a display entitled “Off Broadway”, and with the Association  A.N.A.C.S. in their initiative “Ragazzi a Teatro”  and “Danza d'autore”, and  in  some Gala evenings which took  place at Rome's Teatro Olimpico.

Since 2001  the company has initiated   “Divertiamoci con l'arte”  (“Let's  enjoy ourselves with  art”,)  a Festival  for dance groups and schools which, over the years, has seen  the participation of  over 200 groups  -    a cross-section of  Italian dance -  and   over 5,000 spectators. The initiative took place in many parts of Central Italy:  Rome, Latina, Tivoli, Gaeta, Pompei, Maiori, Ancona, Pescara and Velletri.  During these initiatives the Company Ballet-ex , besides being  the organisers, always gave a performance in order to  show the  direct link between  professionality and the  up – and -coming-dancers.

The company has also taken part in several major  ballet events:  “Danza in Scena” at Rome's Teatro Orione,  “Sotto le Stelle” at Trinita dei Monti, Rome,  “Maiori Grandi Eventi”, the international dance  festival of Maiori and “Viaggio nella Danza” at the Politeama Theatre, Gioia Tauro.

The Company has also taken part in “Festa dei Teatri”, an important Display organised by  the City of Rome and in this, together with other groups,  was representing  the dance of Rome.

Guest appearance  on March 9th 2008  at  Valentia Cacciani's Dance Gala in Reggio Emilia, and April 18th 2008  Ballet-ex was guest  at “ Evento Danza,” Salerno.

The company won the first prize at the international dance competition in Athens (greece)

Guest appearance  on  july 2008  at  pescara dance festival, and august 2008  ad "Dance inside" in Riccione and october 2008 at "danza senza spazi" in Rome.

IN december 2008 has been in tournée in North of Italy with the circuito danza del trentino "Trentino in danza"

On 20 February, we were one of the guests at "Danza Infiera" invited to the "Contemporary on stage" exhibition.
In March 2009, the company created its latest work "Duel" based on music by Schubert and performed in Reggio Emilia and Rome (May 2009).
Ballet Ex stands out for its special work in highlighting the qualities and potential of male dance.  Indeed the company is formed of male dancers with different talents who nevertheless mix and blend well together. The genre is aimed at Neo-classical - contemporary.

With regard to dance teaching and video dance the company has had an important part to play, and has  created several Videos of its  repertory and also 3   important teaching Videos, which are now widely available  in Italy and Europe. “Pas de deux lessons” is the first Video guide to a Pas de Deux lesson, and the “Classical Dance lessons on Video” is the first guide to  a classical dance lesson on DVD which has an Italian commentary. Finally, “Pointwork lessons on Video” is the first and only Video guide  of this nature  entirely in Italian.

Using the medium of Videos Ballet-ex aims to spread its message, and, whilst  retaining a strong classical  base  is still aiming for an eloquent contemporary  expression which is rich in its  varied influences.  Its main aim is to  convey present-day and universal themes and ideas by seeking ever new directions rather then relying on standard repertoire.  The company seeks also to involve other artists (musicians, painters and actors) and new technology, aiming  to bring Italian dance forward into the 21st Century, with awareness of current events and  the  needs of the audience.

Ballet-ex has been  the founder member of “Consulta della Danza” of Agis Lazio, an important Regional body, and is at the moment  a member of the  “Comitato per il coordinamento  delle associazioni culturali della danza nelle regioni” (an important committee  coordinating dance associations”) which has recently been formed in Rome .
